However, South Africa's Stormers are also reeling after two bad injuries suffered during their 57-40 pre-season win over the Lions in Cape Town on Saturday.
Wing Leolin Zas broke a leg that will keep him out of action for a year. Both his fibula and tibia were broken after he came on as a replacement in the game.
Springbok Juan de Jongh tore his medial collateral ligament and will be out for 10-12 weeks,
The Stormers have been quick to move and have signed Springbok wing Bjorn Basson from the Bulls as a replacement for Zas.
Stormers director of rugby Gert Smal said Basson would be a welcome addition.
"Bjorn is a versatile player whose record speaks for itself and we are excited to add another player with proven quality," he told sport24.co.za.
"In Bjorn we have a player comfortable on the wing or at fullback who is one of the best around under the high ball. The influence he will have on our young outside backs cannot be under-estimated."
There is also a possibility that utility back Joe Pietersen may appear for the side. He played for them between 2006-13 before joining Biarritz but has also had stints with the Cheetahs and Sharks, and now plays for Kamaishi Seawaves in Japan.
Midfield back Huw Jones, a Scotland international, will have one more season with the Stormers before taking up a two-year deal with Glasgow Warriors.
Jones started his professional rugby career in Cape Town and has played 24 times for the Stormers and 16 times for Western Province in the Currie Cup.
Jones said he felt the time was right to return to Scotland with his international career in mind.
"It felt like the time was right to join Glasgow, having enjoyed my time in Cape Town playing Super Rugby. Obviously, playing for Scotland, it makes a lot of sense to be playing in Scotland and I was ready to make the move," he said.
