Wing Etene Nanai-Seturo, who made his debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2019, and prop Ollie Norris, who joined the team in 2020, will both reach this significant career milestone.
Nanai-Seturo, known for his dynamic playing style, has already achieved national honours for the All Blacks Sevens and All Blacks XV and won't be far from the All Blacks selectors thinking this year.
Meanwhile, Norris, who showcased his prowess during last year's DHL Super Rugby Pacific season, also earned a spot in the All Blacks XV squad last year. Additionally, he has been a consistent performer for the Māori All Blacks since his debut against Manu Samoa in 2021.
Reflecting on their journey, Gallagher Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillan expressed his admiration for Nanai-Seturo and Norris, highlighting their growth and influence within the team. McMillan stated, “Etene and Ollie have evolved into integral members of our squad over the years. Witnessing their development and impact has been immensely gratifying. Achieving 50 Super Rugby appearances is a remarkable feat, and we aim to honor their dedication with a performance worthy of their contributions to our club.”
Ahead of the round seven clash against Moana Pasifika, the Gallagher Chiefs will see the debut of Auckland prop Sione Ahio, alongside season debuts for Wallace Sititi and Peniasi Malimali in the starting lineup. Rameka Poihipi, who captained the team previously and scored a rapid try in their last encounter, will resume the captaincy duties.
Commenting on the upcoming challenge posed by Moana Pasifika, McMillan acknowledged their improved form, particularly in set-piece plays and tactical innovations. He emphasised the importance of staying prepared for any surprises and highlighted the significance of rewarding hardworking players with opportunities to showcase their skills, especially in front of their home crowd.
In reflection of the recent loss to the Crusaders, McMillan commended his team's resilience despite the defeat, acknowledging the opponent's energy and precision. He emphasised the need for discipline and learning from the small moments that ultimately affected the outcome. Additionally, McMillan praised the performance of young pivot Josh Jacomb, highlighting his ability to steer the team and the importance of building depth within the squad.
