Assistant coach Clarke Dermody said, "We're trying to sharpen up everywhere. Two per centre better everywhere and we start converting opportunities and we start putting teams away."
The pressure was mounting on the side if they are to gain a place in the top eight to contest the playoffs.
"We've got an idea of where we need to get to, but we've just got to start playing well and executing," he said.
"We feel like we've turned a corner in the last couple of games, but still not quite finishing tries off.
"We've got to play well to beat Moana. They are a team that gives it everything," he said.
"You've seen in the last couple of weeks how good they can be so we are preparing well to take them on."
While Moana faced a storm week last week, they had played well. They have created depth in their squad, similar to what the Highlanders have done.
"We're preparing for a good team to come down here. They had a good game here under the roof earlier in the season against the Crusaders so I'm sure they're looking forward to it as well," he said.
Dermody said he felt the pack had taken plenty out of their 14-17 effort against the Crusaders at the weekend, and they had learned where they needed to be better.
Denny Solomona believes he is about a week away from full match fitness. He will come off the bench again on Friday, and he appreciated coach Tony Brown giving him the time to get up to speed.
"He's been very patient with me. He won't allow me to drown because of the speed of the game. So, he's allowing me to get back up to match fitness. I think I'll be pretty much ready next week, and we'll go from there," he said.
The differences between rugby in the two hemispheres have been apparent.
"It's probably the speed of the unstructured play. The quickness of the game at the minute, I think that's the only difference. Everything else is the same. So, you've got to be on for pretty much the whole game. One little slip up can cost you a try," he said.
Solomona said he enjoyed passing on what he had learned from his experiences in league and English rugby.
"We've got a pretty young crew here. If I've got any knowledge that I can pass on, then I'll do so.
