For the first time, all three co-captains, Asafo Aumua, Brad Shields and Du'Plessis Kirifi, will start, while in another significant switch, Ruben Love will start at first five-eighths.

Callum Harkin will start in Love's place at fullback, while All Black Billy Proctor is on the bench for the first time since his Achilles tendon injury last year.

Coach Clark Laidlaw said: "It's a big two weeks in Australia for us.

"The Force have played some excellent rugby, so we'll need to match that.

"We haven't got all the results we wanted so far, but we know we can grow a lot from here on. It's great to have a few players back.

Assistant coach Jamie Mackintosh said they were forced to absorb key lessons from their 24-31 loss to the Crusaders.

"They presented a really good set piece. They put our lineout under pressure, and theirs was good. We've had a look at that today. We forwards pride ourselves in that area, and we're a little disappointed.

"But we learned some lessons and are looking forward to putting those lessons into play against the Force, which is shaping as a big game for our season."

He said building pressure through the pack allowed them to take charge of calling the tune, especially when it was close to the line.

But against the Crusaders, there was space out wide, and while they sometimes looked frantic, they could get back in the game. It was disappointing that an opportunity presented itself with two Crusaders in the sin bin, and they could not capitalise.

"For 40-50 minutes, we were pretty messy, and then the game burst into life at the end.

"We created an opportunity to go to golden point with two guys in the bin, but we got rushed. We reflected on that today.

"Every group learns lessons and you have to go through it together because it creates cohesion. In this competition, you can't sit around and suck your thumb and be down for too long."

Absorbing the lessons was crucial so they could go into the Force game on Friday looking to win.

"One thing I never doubt is that they work hard. I like their intent and the way they play the game. They throw themselves at it, and we just need to tidy up a few of these little moments.

"And because I'm a glass half full person, we've got six games in the season to put these right."
