Cory Brown, the brother of long-time Joseph coaching partner Tony Brown, has signed a two-year contract as attack coach for the side. He replaces Kenny Lynn, who joined the Argentina Test side.
Brown said, "I'm thrilled to be coming home and rejoining the Highlanders.
"It's a fantastic opportunity to work alongside Jamie and bring his vision for the team to life. I can't wait to get started and begin contributing to the Highlanders success."
Brown had an earlier stint with the Highlanders in 2017-18 but then moved to Japan, where he was an assistant coach of the Super Rugby side, the Sunwolves, and then as head coach of Sannix between 2018-21.
Since then, he has been the attack coach for the Black Lions in Georgia, the Europe Super Cup champions in 2021-22. He was then appointed an assistant coach with the Georgia Test side, which won the Rugby Europe International Championship in 22, including wins over Wales and Italy.
He was with Georgia at last year's Rugby World Cup in France.
After the World Cup, he was head coach of the New Orleans-based NOLA Gold team in the American Major League competition, seeing the side reach the playoffs.
Joseph said, "We are delighted to have Cory join us for next season. He is now an experienced coach at the professional level, and he has a close connection with the side and region.
"His knowledge of Otago and Highlanders rugby will mean he will fit seamlessly into our coaching group."
