The pair, both former Chiefs players, have been through the tough times the side endured two seasons back but were feeling the benefits of the hard work done by coaches and players to get the side back on track.
Hill said he had no doubts about extending his contract. He couldn't think of a better place to be.
"It's a team we've played for and want to coach. It's where we've lived most of our lives. My family is based in Tauranga and been there for 10 years. It's a no-brainer really."
There was stability and cohesion within the coaching group. Hill said he worked with head coach Clayton McMillan with Bay of Plenty while he played with Randle 20 years ago.
"We've been through some interesting times the last four years I've been here. Continuity is cool, we all turn up here and know each other's personalities pretty well and are ready to crack in and get some work done."
Having been in the final two years ago and the semis last year, they knew to keep their routine the same going into the playoffs. They had done some good work during the year; they had a good formula, so there was no need to change what they were doing.
From his specialist area of defence, there was also some continuity while the players' growth had also helped as they became familiar with systems.
Having captain and flanker Sam Cane and lock Brodie Retallick remaining from the last Chiefs side to win a title back in 2013 was good as they prepared to try to go all the way again.
But Hill said there had been good growth in other leaders as well; No8 Luke Jacobson, first five-eighths Damian McKenzie, and centre Anton Lienert-Brown had all been part of extending the leadership load, which had become a strength for the side.
Attack coach Randle said they shared the same hopes and vision with the side, which a strong group of players backed for the future, and that was exciting.
Stepping into playoff rugby was evident with the side which returned from Perth on Monday. The mood had lifted, and they were looking forward to it.
"We're starting at the same start line with the Reds now. What we've done has given us confidence that a lot of the parts of our game are working well but we all know this is pressure, knockout footy now."
Randle said it was ironic they were paired against the only team to have beaten them this season. That was something the Reds would be excited about as well.
"The Reds came here [New Plymouth] and played well against us and deserved their win."
