Extra incentive for both sides is assured due to both being on the losing end of heavy defeats last weekend.
Coach Scott Robertson said the Crusaders needed to focus on 'a couple of things' to get right.
"We weren't far away in a lot of areas of the game and we'll do a good job of getting those right and then get excited for this week."
"It was hard to get off our back fence, and they did a great job. We learnt a lot. It was a special performance from them, and we could have been better, and that was the margin."
While losing, there were also several things the Crusaders did well, but the defeat had been a clear reminder, 'nice and early' for them.
Robertson compared the game to their win over the Chiefs in their semifinal last year, which he said was probably their most challenging game of 2022.
Experienced All Blacks lock Sam Whitelock will return for his first game. He hadn't been too far from making the opening round and was excited about playing.
Fergus Burke has been named at fullback, with David Havili moving back to second five-eighths with Jack Goodhue moving to centre.
Robertson said they wanted to get Burke onto the field because he played well in pre-season play and had done what was required as a substitute last weekend.
"We thought let's try him there. He can switch around with Richie [Mo'unga] because they cover the backfield quite nicely. He's quick, big enough and he can punt a ball and we've had him there for a bit of the pre-season to set him up and this is the game we decided to do it."
Prop Fletcher Newell wasn't named in the side. He had scans on his knee while he also tweaked his foot last week, and they wanted to make sure he was all right.
Flanker Tom Christie said the players felt there were lessons to be learned from their loss to the Chiefs as being the first round, they still had time to make any required changes.
"It's not what we wanted but it is a good opportunity and, hopefully this week, we can come out and show what we have learnt and continue to do that for the rest of the season."
Nothing changed for the Crusaders. Every title they had won had been hard work requiring them to dig deep to earn the titles.
"It's going to be the exact same this year. Every week you have to show up in this competition and earn a victory, it is never given to you. We know that and it's just a nice reminder."
"There's two motivated teams this weekend and there's two teams that are going to give it everything. It's going to be another great spectacle for Super Rugby and the fans."
