Playing his first game in six weeks following an injury layoff, Wainui made up for lost time with five tries in the Chiefs 40-7 win over the Waratahs in Sydney.
In the 25-year history of Super Rugby, four tries had been scored by an individual player 18 times but never had a player reached the magical mark of five tries until Wainui’s effort against the Waratahs.
The victory in Sydney ended the season on a high for the Chiefs who can be proud of making the final in the Aotearoa competition and only dropping one game in Trans-Tasman.
