We had our opportunities - Holland

The New Zealanders went down 33-37 after captain and flanker Ardie Savea's last-gasp effort was ruled out when a TMO report said home loose forward Luke Reimer got a hand beneath the ball as Savea grounded it under the crossbar.

"There's nothing much to be said," Holland said.

"Ards has said he scored the try, but we've got to be able to control what we can control.

"We could have scored a couple of other times in that game with opportunities we created, and we weren't quite accurate enough."

It was a disappointing end to Holland's two-year reign as head coach of the side.

He said the Hurricanes finishing position had been something they had control of, but in the end, having to play the fourth-placed Brumbies was difficult, especially as they lost the same game in Canberra in 2022.

"Part of the battle around coming to Canberra, the 50-50 calls don't go your way here.

"I thought we created so many opportunities and the Brumbies are really strong around that D [defence] and sometimes it takes six minutes to wear down a team like the Brumbies and score a try, and I thought we'd done that."

Brumbies halfback Nic White said they would throw the kitchen sink at the Chiefs in their semifinal on Saturday.
